Chris Mang Memorial Charity Fun Run/Walk

This is a charity run/walk held in memory of Christopher Mang who passed away in May of 2018. Chris was a longtime participant in the Skagit County Special Olympics Program and more recently volunteered at a number of Northwest Endurance Events running events. Known for his big personality, Chris was driven by a love for the many people in his life and a passion for helping others – He was a friend to everyone he met. He loved music and movie trivia and enjoyed karakoke with friends.
The Mang/Glesne family and the Skagit Valley Family YMCA have partnered to establish the Christopher Mang Memorial Fund. Registration fees from the event will be donated to Chris’ Memorial Fund which supports recreational programming and equipment to benefit underserved youth and families, as well as those with special needs in the Skagit Valley. In the spirit of one of his favorite songs by the Beatles, we hope you will consider a gift to the fund as an expression of love for others in our community: “All you need is love.”

Shirts, Hats, and Medals
There will be tech shirts and hats available for purchase on race day. All t-shirt and hat sales benefit the local Skagit Special Olympics.
Finisher medals will be awarded to all children.
Parking
There is limited parking close to the start area here. If you plan on arriving closer to the start, or just don’t want to deal with trying to find a spot, there is plenty of parking available at the college.

Course Information
The 1mile and 5K courses follow trails bordering softball, baseball, and soccer fields at the Skagit Playfields County Park, located on the northeast side of Skagit Valley College. Trails at the Playfields vary between crushed gravel, compressed wood chips, and pavement. Music and food (hot dogs, a variety of chips and snacks) will be provided at the finish area.
We encourage people who want to run/walk to register online, but if you’re unable to, please note we will have day of race registration available.
The course starts on the westside of the softball fields near the large shelter. Runners start near the shelter and follow the short trail to the main trail that loops around the soccer and ball fields. The 5K course has three 1mile counterclockwise loops, around the complex, with a moderate uphill and downhill sections on each loop. The remainder of the course varies from flat to gentle uphill or downhill grades. Following the third loop, runners will turn left back to the Start/Finish area. The 1 mile run/walkers will follow the 5k course but returning to the finish after only 1 loop. the first part of the 5K course, including the out and back, circling the south playfields before returning to the start finish. There is only one road where traffic enters the park. There will be a crossing guard at this location, however, all participants should be aware of traffic entering the park as they approach this crossing.
All turns will be marked and or signed. There will be an aid station at approximately the half way point of each loop. This is not a USATF certified course, but it is at least the advertised distance.

There will be a single aid station on the course that will have Water and Sports drink available for runners.

Refund Policy
For most of our races we do not offer refunds or bib transfers. We do allow participants to defer their entry to next year, or their fee towards another of our events as long as we are contacted before the event starts.
In the event we have to change the date of our event, we will offer refunds* until the originally scheduled event date, or 7 days after we’ve notified participants, whichever is later. After this time we will only offer a deferral until the newly scheduled date.
Should we have to cancel an event ouright, we will offer a refund* or an entry in next year’s event.
*If possible we will get Databar/UltraSignup to refund to the payment method used, if not we will send a check for the amount paid minus the fee Databar/UltraSignup charges.
